The world premiere of Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron
The two compact electric SUVs, the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback e-tron, carry the progressive design from the concept cars further in series production.
The Audi Q4 e-tron electric car and the Q4 Sportback e-tron electric car are versatile for everyday use. At the same time, both models show new dimensions in the cabin and groundbreaking solutions when it comes to operation, display and assistant systems, where, e.g. the augmented reality head-up display connects the virtual and the real world in a completely new way.
Three different driveline variants are offered. The spearhead is a quattro model with a maximum output of 220 kW (299 hp), while the rear-wheel-drive Audi Q4 40 e-tron achieves a range of up to 509 km (WLTP). The Q4 e-tron can be ordered from 22 April, and the first Q4 e-tron is expected this summer.
With the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, Audi takes the next step in the design language for the brand's electric models: The two compact SUVs continue the lines of series production that the concept cars Audi Q4 concept and Audi Q4 Sportback e- tron concept showed in early 2019, and they show marked proportions, short overhangs at the front, large rims and powerfully crafted muscles. All lines are made with the utmost precision, and with the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, the very low, coupe-like roofline results in an expressively designed rear end, where the spoiler is placed low on the two-part window. As is typical of Audi, the brand's progressive design is functional and aerodynamic: the Q4 e-tron achieves a Cd value of 0.28, and the Sportback even has an air resistance value of 0.26.
As an option, both compact electric SUVs are available with matrix LED headlights that always lights the road as brightly as possible without surprising other road users. A world-first is the digital light signatures, where the driver in the control system MMI touch can choose between four signatures of the daytime running light. At the rear of the car, the taillights are connected by a light strip, and when it comes to painting, customers can choose between eight colours - including the new colours Geyser Blue and Aurora violet metallic lacquer.
With a length of 4.59 m, the cars offer new space dimensions and exceed the known boundaries between the car classes. However, the space conditions are comparable to the luxury-class SUV models, and there is no centre tunnel in the cabin. Another advantage of the car being built on a dedicated electric car platform (MEB) is the good legroom at the rear seats.
The luggage compartment also exceeds the usual dimensions in the compact class with size as in the middle class. In the Audi Q4 e-tron, the boot volume is between 520 and 1,490 l depending on the location of the rear seat backrests, while in the Sportback, there is a boot volume of between 535 and 1,460 l. Both models have a trailer weight of up to 1,000 kg (with brakes, at a 12 % increase ), and the quattro model can even pull up to 1,200 kg.
The long-range is another advantage in everyday life - the Q4 e-tron 40 can run up to 509 km on a single charge (WLTP). Moreover, with a charging power of up to 125 kW, power can be refuelled to approximative 130 km in approximative ten minutes, and with the myAudi app, the customer can control the charging and pre-climatization via his smartphone.
The interior of the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron looks wide and airy, and the instrument panel is oriented towards the driver as an integral part of the interior. For the sporty S line interior, seat upholstery is available with a large proportion of recycled polyester - for the front and rear seat upholstery, a total of approximative twenty-six recycled 1.5 l PET bottles.
The steering wheel with touch surfaces is completely new, which the driver uses to control the digital instrument cluster. In connection with MMI and the online services from Audi connect, you get, e.g. the intelligent e-tron route planner for calculating an optimal route along with the public charging infrastructure.
As an option, the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron offer another innovation - augmented reality head-up display. It places the instructions of certain assistant systems and the symbols of the real-world navigation system outside the driver's field of vision. Instead, they are displayed dynamically in a large window, where they are seen visually hovering at a distance of approx. 10 m or more from the driver and thus seems integrated into the surroundings.
The range of drivelines for the two compact electric models includes two battery sizes and three driveline variants. The compact battery for the Q4 35 e-tron has a capacity of 52 kWh (55 kWh gross), and in the large battery for the models Q4 40 e-tron and Q4 50 e-tron quattro, the capacity is 77 kWh (82 kWh gross). The electric car battery is located between the axles and thus contributes to a low centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution. On the Q4 35 e-tron and Q4 40 e-tron, the rear axle is pulled by an electric motor with an output of 125 kW (170 hp) and 150 kW (204 hp), respectively. The top engine in the Q4 50 e-tron quattro offers two electric motors for the electric four-wheel drive. They have a total maximum output of 220 kW (299 hp), which is enough to handle the sprint from 0-100 km / h in 6.2 seconds and a top speed that is electronically limited to 180 km / h. For efficiency, the engine on the front axle is activated only when high performance or better traction is required. Intelligent recovery, which among other things, uses data from the navigation system and topography data, is also an important factor for energy-saving driving. The heat pump uses the residual heat from the high voltage components and the ambient air to air condition the cabin.
The two new electric SUVs from Audi can be charged with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) and different charging power depending on the battery. The compact battery can be charged with up to 7.2 kW for AC charging and 100 kW for DC charging. The electric car battery can be charged with up to 11 kW for AC and 125 kW for DC.
The Audi e-tron Charging Service provides access to approximative 210,000 public charging points in 26 European countries - of which 4,400 lightning charging points (as of April 2021). Furthermore, with the Transit tariff, customers of Audi Q4 e-tron do not pay a subscription for the first year, and they can above all benefit from advantageous terms in the IONITY lightning charging network.
