Family EV of the Year: The New Škoda Elroq

The automotive market is shifting. Electric vehicles are now the norm, not the exception. The new Škoda Elroq arrives to compete. This is not a concept. This is a production vehicle with results. It has already earned significant awards. The Elroq showcases Škoda’s new design direction. It provides a blueprint for practical, electric mobility. The car’s performance, design, and interior space are backed by data.

Modern Solid Design Drives Results

The Elroq is the first Škoda to use the new Modern Solid design language. This design philosophy prioritizes function and simplicity. The result is an authentic, robust look. Designers avoided unnecessary flourishes. The car’s exterior is clean and defined. The Modern Solid style is what sets this car apart.

The front features a unique Tech-Deck Face. It is a flat, modern grille interpretation. The bonnet has the Škoda name in dark chrome. This replaces the traditional circular logo. The headlights are slim LED Matrix beam units. They extend into the car’s wings. The roofline slopes gently. The car has a low drag coefficient of 0.26. This design choice directly improves the vehicle’s range.

This new design has received official recognition. The Elroq won the prestigious Red Dot Award for product design. A jury of 43 design experts from 21 nations assessed the car. They considered criteria like innovation, functionality, durability, and environmental compatibility. The Elroq passed with top marks. This award proves the design is more than just a style statement. It is a functional and effective design.

The Interior: Space, Sustainability, and Technology

Inside, the Elroq is defined by its spaciousness and clean lines. The cabin feels open and simple. The front headroom is 1,056 millimeters. Rear headroom is 990 millimeters. This provides comfort for all passengers. The interior layout is intuitive. It does not confuse the driver.

A 13-inch infotainment display is standard on every model. It has a clear, intuitive interface. The display supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A smaller 5-inch Digital Cockpit shows essential driving information. An optional augmented-reality head-up display is available. It projects speed and navigation arrows onto the windscreen. The infotainment system also includes a physical button bar. This provides quick access to climate controls and drive modes.

Škoda used many sustainable materials for the interior. The seat covers contain a high amount of recycled PET and nylon. The Lodge Design Selection uses a material called TechnoFil. This material is composed of 75% recycled ECONYL® fibers. ECONYL® yarns use nylon waste like old fishing nets and fabric scraps. The car’s floor upholstery and mats also use recycled polyester.

The luggage compartment offers generous space. The boot has a capacity of 470 liters with the seats up. Folding the rear seats increases the space to 1,580 liters. The Elroq’s boot is one of the largest in its class. It also includes Simply Clever features. New additions include two side storage compartments. A net for the charging cable is under the boot lid. The tailgate holds an ice scraper made from recycled materials. The luggage compartment cover can be positioned halfway up.

Performance, Charging, and Range Data

The Elroq offers a choice of powertrains. Each powertrain is optimized for a different type of driver. The different battery options provide flexibility. The vehicle's performance is strong across the board.

The base Elroq 50 model has a 52 kWh usable battery capacity. It provides a WLTP range of 232 miles. The 0-62 mph time is 9.0 seconds. This is more than adequate for daily driving.

The mid-range Elroq 60 model has a 59 kWh battery. It has a slightly faster 0-62 mph time of 8.0 seconds. The WLTP range is 260 miles. This is expected to be a popular model.

The Elroq supports rapid charging. All models have a manual battery pre-conditioning function. This warms the battery for faster charging in cold weather. The Elroq 85 charges from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes at DC fast-charging stations. It accepts charging rates up to 175 kW. Lower-powered models take 25 minutes for the same charge. All Elroq models can charge at up to 11 kW on AC stations.
